Dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT) is a form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy that incorporates eastern philosophies of Mindfulness and Radical Acceptance. The Hallowell Center has specifically tailored this DBT workshop to fit the needs of the ADHD population. The workshop with focus on issues that those with ADHD struggle with on a daily basis and will help participants develop strategies to help manage those struggles.
The 16 week workshop is divided into 4 different modules, and will be taught in this order:
Module 1: Mindfulness
Module 2: Interpersonal Effectiveness
Module 3: Emotion Regulation
Module 4: Distress Tolerance
DBT is an effective intervention for individuals with ADHD because it targets
• Impulse control
• Coping skills for anger and frustration
• Self-regulatory skills
In addition, DBT skills provide tools for effective communication, increased tolerance for negative emotions, and ways to deal with a negative event without engaging in behaviors that can make the situation worse.
The DBT for ADHD skills group will meet at the Hallowell Center NYC every Monday from 6:30-7:45pm.
